Deteriorate is probably the angriest, lyrically darkest track of the EP, and was also the first one I wrote and recorded.

It was written at a time where I was just completely done with everything and was fed up of pretending that everything was okay when, internally and mentally, I was falling apart. It's hard to put a smile on every day when you're a million miles away from happy, so this song came from that place of just releasing a lot of pent-up emotion and unhealthy self-loathing, which had developed over a longer period.

Thankfully I'm past that stage now but it was just another part of this story I tried to tell on this record, and an important part for me to express. I'd also been on some medication for a few months, which didn't help how I was feeling, which is what all the medical references in the song are about.

Apathy, self-loathing to the point I can't find anything I like about me.
Ill health, I'm not well.
Incapable of thinking straight from the poison running through my veins.

Begging for the world to hear this, even though I know nobody's listening.
I'm sick of always pretending that I'm just fine. There's nothing wrong with me.
Medication takes its toll. But there's nothing real that can fix this broken soul.
Life leaves us bitter and cold.
But we're searching for something to make us feel whole.

Side effects hit, I don't feel the same.
Lost all feeling. Wear it like a badge of shame.
Bitch.
God, turn back the clock.

I want to suffer.
It's all I deserve.
